I met Lee, by chance, at an Estate Sale, and she gave me her card. When I realized she was an author, I immediately downloaded the book to my Kindle. Not a mistake. As far as my experience with this book, she isn't RIDING SOLO, anymore. I may not have been there, but I felt so many emotions, good, bad, and ugly. I even got angry at her.The perfect example of a great writer. Bringing the reader into the story. Well done, Lee!

She fights her way back into self health and sanity and takes the reader along in every step of the process.
Lee Ravine's writing style was captivating. I especially enjoyed her intermitting
alluding to Ms Freud.
To be able to share her private feelings is truly a gift of altruism.
I know that by telling her story, Ms Ravine has enabled many people
to get off of their "Merry -Go- Round" and find steady ground.
Lee Ravine's book, "Riding Solo My Journey Through Love and Madness," is a compelling read. As her story unfolds, we can't help but wonder what she will endure next. This book has all the elements of a great novel a beautifully written narrative and a compelling yet tragic love story, fraught with angst and fear. It's a book you can't put down, as we wonder what she will be faced with next, and even more important, how she will handle it and keep herself and her daughter safe. Her strength and wit shine through in this gripping book.
I just finished reading Lee B. Ravine's book, Riding Solo. It was an emotional read, but a compelling one, and one that I couldn't put down. This is a remarkable story of a great lady who met Mr. Wrong in a second marriage. He appeared like the "Knight in Shining Armor," and soon it's discovered that he is not. His mental illness was not revealed to her. Rather, she experienced the "roller coaster ride" every single day of her married life. Through a great show of strength, she physically checked out of her marriage when she moved out of the marital bedroom and was forced to lock herself in the guest bedroom night after night fearing for her safety. And throughout this whole ordeal, so continued to try to understand and support the man that she married. It was a huge step for her to move out of the marital house and get a place on her own, but she did it and slowly worked towards her own independence and moving on with her life. This book is a testament to all women in similar situations. You can get out and slowly make a new life for yourself, and heal yourself. Well written and very engaging. I highly recommend Riding Solo!!
This true story about a marriage entered into with love and hope will tear your heart apart as you read each of its revealing chapters. Mental illness takes many forms, and some forms are nearly impossible to understand, even when the spouse is as "up close and personal" as a human being can be. The author's candor is both moving and refreshing in its honesty. She takes the reader through each aspect of her husband's decline -- from his growing unpredictability to his lapses into belligerence and growing separation from reality. There is never any doubt as to her commitment to save their relationship and restore it to its original state, but as time passes her frustration builds. Not all marriages can be saved.
I was intrigued by the author's technique of exposing her inner thoughts throughout the unfolding events -- her psychological journeys into the "why did I not see this before?" aspect of her rationalizing nature regarding each sad revelation. This book will hold your interest throughout because it never stops punching you in the gut. It is not a light read, but rather it is more than food for thought -- it is a sobering account which will require your serious attention and respect.
This is an account of a woman married to a man with severe mental illness. Lee Ravine is able to show the conflicted emotions of caring for a loved one yet fearing him at the same time. The frustration of dealing with his mood swings, affection, irrational behavior, generosity, volatility, good intentions, and so on creates constant stress and anxiety. Efforts to help or get help for those who cannot help themselves is overwhelming. Trying to save him from himself is a futile task. Those with mental illness do not know nor do they accept the fact that they need help and will avoid it at all costs, thus, they spiral downward deeper and deeper into a lonely abyss of torment.
I purchased this book for my sister. After years of witnessing her negotiating the minefield that is her marriage I felt she needed a wake-up call. I am grateful that Riding Solo helped her see the light. Now it's up to her to take the next step.
