time travel done right. this is an great read, fast paced enough to keep you engaged without making you feel like you are jumping around all willy nilly. The only time i was reading and i found myself annoyed at unnecessary detail wasnt until far after i read it and you heard "the rest" of a message, thats confusing the way i worded it but i dont want to give anything away. it was an interesting concept and was done as well as i can see it being done, but i still felt annoyed that i got the message piecemeal. otherwise it had interesting non one dimensional characters, that had actual motivations other than being soldiers. this was far more complex than the first book but i thought it was also far more interesting.Product details

Great characters in crazy yet realistic situations. This is not your normal cookie-cutter series. Highly recommended.
The author has a realistic way of bringing characters to life. You either root for them or against them--you won't be neutral. The story is fast paced, moving from one crisis to another. It's a great series.

Lost interest in reading about halfway through the book.
Captain makes dumb decisions, "what could it hurt" logic.
Only Captain Argentine could keep this dysfunctional group of people together as a crew. If they survive it will be him because they sure don't trust each other, You might not like all the crew members, but suffice to say none of them are boring. Argentine himself is an evolving central character that you will find yourself rooting for as he adapts to new and different challenges in a style that can only be called uniquely entertaining.
I love the mystery of The Void and can't wait to find out more about it.
I've read all of Mr Gordon's books. This one is the best yet. His books are not fluff pieces. They have depth. The characters are each different with their own challenges and strengths. The book gets your attention and keeps it. Plenty of questions are answered from the first book, but others are left a mystery. I enjoyed how each character wasn't the same and so predictable as other writers tend to create. Personally I like the concept of technology advancements up the spiral arm and forward in time, but they need to travel back. I like how parts of the ship and characters are a mystery, but it doesn't stop the forward movement, of the plot and it's not a hang up. The story isn't a retelling of another author, it's completely unique. The author does a good balancing job of everything going on and I am looking forward to the next book. He is a prolific writer so I know it won't be long.
